My name is Cheryl Robinson and I am the founder of Creative Writing and JustAboutBooksTalkShow.com. I am the author of a self-published book, A Forgotten Negro League Star: A Personal Look at Al Burrows, and I started Just About Books Talk Show in May 2005 because I had a difficult time finding venues to market my book. Some of the radio shows wanted a “fee” to be on their show and the show only provided 5-12 minutes of airtime, and I found one gracious show providing 30 minutes of airtime, which was still hardly enough time to discuss my book and my writing career. So, out of necessity, I started Just About Books Talk Show and decided to give each author a 60-minute interview. Our format is simple: the first 30-minute segment is a discussion of the author’s book and the second 30-minute segment is a discussion of the author’s writing career. We book all genres, as well as mainstream, mid-list and self-published authors.
And remember, any day is a great day for reading. So, please take time to enjoy one of our interviews. Happy Listening!

Synopsis: In The Knees of Gullah Island, after the Civil War and during Reconstruction, Gillam Hale was born to free parents, and his life was untouched by slavery. Then he travels with his father to Virginia to minister to slaves, where he meets the beautiful Queen Esther. He wants desperately to purchase her. He finds that he can only do this by distilling illicit whiskey, which is risky, illegal and against his family’s wishes. Gillam's jealous white neighbors decide to something about the competition. They kidnap Gillam's family and scatter them to plantations throughout the South. Gillam must escape from his new owners and find his lost loved ones. In this historical fiction, Dwight weaves another wonderful story of one family’s journey to freedom
Synopsis: In A Good Woman Is Hard To Find, four friends—Dale, Jordan, Marcus and Tyrus—work out at the nearby fitness center and often get worked up when discussing women and finding their soul mate. They all seem to be tired of failed relationships, blind dates and women who don’t appreciate them. So, what do they do? They make a friendly wager to find a good woman—wife material—by the end of the year. They are all thinking, “This should be fun…men outnumber women 7-to-1!” Darrell writes another enjoyable fictional romance.
Synopsis: In Married to A Married Man, it is the age-old story of being involved with a married man, but with today’s twist. Kayla Brown has graduated from the prestigious Harvard University with a MBA and is determined to be successful in the corporate world. She uses her youth and beauty to flirt with Dean Reeves, one of the most powerful corporate executives in Texas. But years pass by and she is still number two in his life, so she has a plan created out of desperation to get “her” man at any “cost.” Portis has created a story full of twists and turns that makes the reader excited with each turn of the page—right up to the surprise ending!
Synopsis: In Soon and Very Soon, Willie Green, a straight-laced pastor, and Vanessa Morton, a contemporary preacher-pastor, decide to get married after a short, ten-month courtship. However, some of the church members from each church disagree when they decide to combine their churches. Is it too soon for either one to let go of the way things were in their pre-marriage days? Sherryle gives the reader true knowledge of what goes on inside churches and in pastors minds!
The Roux In The Gumbo is the life story—from 1865 to 1997—of the author’s great-grandmother and grandmother. It is an emotional and inspirational time when people struggled to survive with strong family support. It was during a time when family was not always a blood relative. The story is about several women whose lives were intertwined by one common goal—basic survival during the reconstruction era of Louisiana, which shaped several generations. Kim Robinson has explored the historical roots of her family and taken the reader along for the adventure!
Synopsis: In Cinnamon Girl Blues, Beverly Brown, Regina Webster and Sasha Grant meet during new employee orientation for a Baltimore insurance company and quickly become close friends. They continue to share the closeness of sisters, even after they leave the insurance company to further their careers. Each young woman has more drama in her life than she can handle alone, but with the bond of their friendship, they each can move forward in life. Cinnamon Girl Blues explores fraud, deceit, envy, romance and the unthinkable. Wilma has written a book about the natural bond of sisterhood—what some women have and others long for!
